The CSIR Road Race powered by Bestmed Medical Scheme was one of its best-attended races in recent years, nearly doubling the previous year’s turnout.

The running community gathered on Saturday, 19 October 2024 to participate in the 31st CSIR Road Race, long considered a favourite of its kind in Pretoria.

As the new main sponsors of the celebrated CSIR Road Race, a road-running event first hosted 31 years ago, in 1993, Bestmed is proud to see such a large turnout. The event offered 5km, 10km and 21km distances. This makes it an inclusive race for amateur and professional road runners as well kids running their first ever road race.

Philani Buthelezi from the Faranani club won the 21km half marathon. Thomas Ndlovu and Kensani Ngobedi from the Masai club placed second and third respectively.

Yolande Maclean from Die Vuilhonde, placed first in the ladies’ category of the 21km race. Kaitlyn Bubb from the Benoni North club placed second and Sandra Cogzell from the Vitality club placed third.

Karen Pienaar, Bestmed Sponsorship and CSI Specialist, points out that the key CSIR values of excellence, integrity, collaboration and being people-centric dovetail perfectly, with Bestmed’s own principled and passionate approach to its members.

(20) CSIR πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ on X: "Thank you for joining us at this year’s EPIC #CSIRRace2024, powered by @BestmedScheme! We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we hope to see you all at next year’s race. https://t.co/jrIv6Js0z5" / X
