The first step of the Tempo wellness programme is your Tempo Lifestyle Screening. For your convenience the lifestyle screening is available for completion via the Tempo portal on the Bestmed App. Alternatively, members and beneficiaries can download the Tempo Lifestyle Screening form, complete it and take it to their nearest Tempo pharmacy (see below our screening providers) to have their biometric screenings done.
The lifestyle screening intended for beneficiaries 16 years and older and includes: the Bestmed Tempo lifestyle questionnaire; a blood pressure check, cholesterol check, glucose check, as well as a height and weight checks.
Every member of your family (16 years and older) gets one (1) Tempo Lifestyle Screening per year and needs to complete their screening once a year. Benefits are allocated for each benefit year (1 January to 31 December), and do not carry over to the following year.
All Tempo benefits form part of the preventative care benefits offered by Bestmed and are free to all Tempo registered members. Members should not pay any of the Tempo network pharmacies or other providers upfront when completing the Tempo Lifestyle Screening and the nutrition and/or physical wellbeing consultations. The Scheme will pay the claim based on the relevant benefit codes submitted by the relevant provider(s).

A biokineticist is a healthcare professional who specialises in exercise therapy. They focus on improving a person's physical condition and quality of life through movement.
The term "biokinetics" comes from the Greek words "bios," meaning life, and "kinesis," meaning movement. So, it literally refers to the science of movement and physical activity as it relates to health.

Dr. Susan de Beer – Biokineticist, Health Coach, and Wellness Advocate
Hi, I’m Susan! I’m a biokineticist with a passion for helping people achieve their best quality of life by moving better, feeling better, and living healthier. With over 20 years in private practice, I’ve worked with a wide range of clients—whether recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions, or simply striving to improve their overall well-being.
My journey into biokinetics started with a love for movement and a deep belief in the power of exercise as medicine. I hold a PhD in Biokinetics from the University of Pretoria, where my research focused on managing chronic low back pain. Over the years, I’ve combined my clinical expertise with health coaching to empower my clients through movement, education, and sustainable lifestyle changes.
When I’m not in my practice in Garsfontein, you’ll find me staying active, spending time with my family, or exploring new ways to make health and fitness more accessible to everyone. I believe we are often capable of more than we realize—sometimes, we just need the right guidance to uncover that potential.
